A Community Dream Comes True
This headline appeared in the April 1966 edition of The McLean Scene, with the above Artist's Sketch capturing the imagination of all the new members, and attracting additional members to fill out the rolls. Board member Conrad Kleveno recently unearthed both the April edition as well as the letter sent to members in late May, 1965. We have digitized both precious Highlands' artifacts for your reading pleasure. As you read the letter, we think you'll agree that although this was sent long ago, many of the issues that the founding members encountered in the original construction of the pool are the same that our current members have encountered in the construction of our snack bar!
We think that you will also enjoy the entirety of The McLean Scene, and so have digitized the entire edition. Clearly, knowing your neighbors had a lot to do with your decision to frequent their stores. Hopefully you have taken an opportunity to know many of your fellow Highlands' members in our bucolic and peaceful setting, which from the picture above, appears to have been present since the beginning. It is the same charm that we love so much, and that is truly survived time largely unchanged!
